Episode 14: On the Joys of 100% Wool and Knitwear Design

Hello Knitters!

In this episode, I SAY that I'm going to give my opinions on the pros and cons of two woolen spun yarns, but upon reflection, I don't actually give my opinions at all. I present the facts and leave you to form your own opinions. Isn't that democratic of me?

Also, I forgot to mention that one of my favorite podcasters is knitting my Gigi sweater!  Tracie of the Grocery Girls podcast got her kit from Barrett Wool in the Sherwood colorway and will be casting on soon.  If she talks about it on the podcast, I might bust from joy. (I'm such a nerd...)

P.S. Madelinetosh Tosh Sock is 100% merino wool and is a superwash.  Just as I suspected...

See below for links to the stuff I talk about here. I hope you enjoy this episode, and feel free to drop me a line if you want to. I love hearing from you guys!  :)

  1. Great episode!
I have knit sweaters with superwash twice before..... I've decided it just does not have the structure that 100% wool does! And superwash can be very (pilly). I will only use superwash now for baby and children's garments.
Great listening as I finish my Montague street!!!
    Thank You!

    1. Thank you so much, Colleen! I love your finished Montague Street. It turned out gorgeous. And I have been giving the 100% natural wool vs. superwash vs. sock blend fingering a lot of thought lately, and will be talking about it in episode 15! :)

  2. Great podcast!! You had me laughing out loud a few times. I am so excited for you and all the designing you have been doing. The stamp inspired one sounds intriguing right after your artistic heart!! I see a book of your patterns being published in the future. Enjoy your vacation!!!!

    1. Thank you so much, Siobhan!!!! Thank you so much for listening and leaving a comment! I don't think any of those designs are going to get picked up by those big names, but that means I'll be releasing them myself! :) It's my dream to write a knitting book... someday. :)

  3. Oh my gosh! I found your podcast through The Grocery Girls who recently gave you the nod. My ears perked up when they mentioned you were based in NOVA... Me too! Lol. I also have young children, disproportionately long arms, and a love of beer. Needless to say, I can *totally* relate to so much you talk about and am absolutely loving your podcast. I will be binge listening through the weekend for sure. I'm also eagerly anticipating your Baker St Shawl. Shawls + Sherlock = Perfection. Thanks for putting out all of this great content!

    1. Oh my gosh!!! We have to be best friends!!! You sound like my soul sister, and I'm so glad you found and are enjoying the podcast. I love making it. :) Baker Street is OUT, and it is my go-to fall shawl for all the 65 degree days we've been having. I love its size for this climate. I'm so glad you contacted me, and feel free to PM me! I am always looking for a buddy to go to Fibre Space with! :)
